OHL PUJA POR UNA CONCESIÓN EN PUERTO DE VALPARAÍSO

Spanish construction firm OHL and an Empresas Navieras-led consortium have submitted bids for the Valparaíso terminal 2 concession, according to a release from Puerto Valparaiso, run by state-owned port company EPV.
This project will "further enhance the development of the national port industry, strengthening it as one of the most important in the region and giving the assurance that the country will have the capacity to meet future demand," according to minister of transport and telecommunications MTT, Pedro Pablo Errázuriz.
The port will generate 1,000 permanent jobs, improving the economic and social development in the area, according to Domingo Cruzat, president of Sistema de Empresas SEP.
The new terminal will require an investment of between US$250mn and US$300mn, according to local paper Diario Financiero. The paper quotes EPV general manager, Herald Jaeger, as saying that the first phase should be ready in four years and be able to move over 2mn TEUs per year.
Economic bids for the project will be opened on April 2.
On March 20, incumbent port companies operating in region V declined to bid for the project during the opening phase of the concession process. Among those who declined to participate are local groups Luksic, Matte and Von Appen.
